This collection contains documents created by the Office of the Dean of Students. Included are Advisee lunch notes and policy files. Also included are correspondence, announcements, flyers, brochures, student awards, student council information and other items related to students at lawrenceville. A large part of the collection contains restricted information.

Conditions Governing Access

Series 1: Unrestricted and its Sub-Serises are open for research use. Serise 2: Restricted, Contains mostly restricted information with some non-restricted mixed in and is closed to outside reaseachers. Outside reseachers can be give access to some documents within the series with archivist approval. Folders in this Serise use a sticker system. Sticker Key: Red: All items in the folder are Restricted. Yellow: Mix of restricted and non restricted items.

Conditions Governing Use

Single photocopies and digital photographs may be made for research purposes. Permission to publish materials from the collection must be requested from the Archivist. Researchers are responsible for determining any other copyright questions.

Biographical / Historical

"The Dean of Students is responsible for the overall experience of students at Lawrenceville and for overseeing the House and Advisor system. The Dean supervises Housemasters, Advisors, and Level Directors, and is responsible for student orientation, discipline, and the Student Services Office. The Dean sets and maintains community expectations for Lawrentians and works closely with student leaders and faculty to maintain Lawrenceville's positive tone and culture of respect."

The Deans from 1970 up to the present have been: Tom Eglin: 1970-1986; Sam Harding (co-dean with Nancy Maslack for one year: 1986-1987; Nancy Maslack:1986-1988; John Martin (Marty) Doggett; 1988-1999; Tim Doyle: 1999-2004; Martha Gracey: 2004-2007; Nancy Thomas: 2007-2014; Blake Eldridge: 2014-2017


The Office of the Dean of Students Records are arranged into two series: Series 1: Policy Files and Series 2: Subject Files.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The records were transferred from the Office of the Dean of Students to the Archives by Bette Cornell on August 21, 2012.


Appraisal has been conducted in accordance with The Lawrenceville School Stephan Archives guidelines.
