Biographical / Historical

The Office of the Head of School is responsible for overseeing the entire Lawrenceville School. Originaly known as the Office of the Headmaster, it was changed in 2020 to the Office of the Head of School. The Head of School and their assistants work closely with the Senior Staff and the Board of Trustees to fulfill Lawrenceville’s mission. The office in its current state began in 1883 when the school when through a transformation from a small school owned and ran by the headmaster to a larger school governed by a headmaster and a board of trustees. The Head of School is responsible for creating and working towards a strategic vison for the school. They are also responsible for overseeing the senior staff, creating and overseeing committees, helping with strategic campaigns, planning major events, giving speeches, and helping to build and keep relationships within the community.

Three scrapbooks pertaining to Mather A. Abbott's time as Head Master are in SC001 Scrapbook Collection. The materials in them date to between 1926 and 1929.
