Biographical / Historical
Robert Henry Rose was born 19 June 1921 in New York. His original family name was Rosenzweig, which was changed to Rose in Sept 1938. He attended Lawrenceville from 1936 to 1939 where he was known as “Bob” or “Rosie”. Rose was known to be very athletic and was on the varsity swim team and on the polo squad. He appears to have been interested in football. Rose also had numerous interests beyond sports. He was known to be a great photographer, which landed him a sport of the Photography Board and won him the Photography prize in 1938. He was also part of the Periwig club and Olla Podrida club. During his time at Lawrenceville he lived in Cromwell house while in lower school and later Hamill and Kinnan house. He was know to be a bit of a un-malicious prankster. Rose also seems to have enjoyed going to shows at the local McCarter Theater in Princeton as well as Princeton University Football games. He even attended the Rose Bowl in 1938. After his graduation from Lawrenceville he attended the University of North Carolina and also was enlisted in the Navel as an Air Transport Service Pilot during World War II. He died 23 November 2003.
