Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials collected by Ed Poreda during his tenure as the Track and Cross Country Coach for Lawrenceville School from 1953 until 2017. The bulk of the collection features documents related to track and cross country as well as personal information on Ed Poreda. The Collection contains three series, Series 1: Lawrenceville Files, Series 2: Personal Files, and Series 3: Student Track and Cross Country Individual Files. Series 1: Lawrenceville Files contains documents relating to the Lawrenceville School. The series contains one Sub-Series: Lawrenceville Track and Cross Country, which contains information on Track and Cross Country seasons and Major meets, as well as schedules, track records, and newspaper clippings. The sub-series includes information relating to both Men and from 1992 onward Women’s Track and Cross Country. The rest of the series contains items related to Ed Poreda’s work at Lawrenceville including correspondence and documents relating to his employment. Please note that his staff evaluation is restricted. Series 2: Personal Files contains documents related to Ed Poreda and his personal life outside of the Lawrenceville School. This includes documents relating to his college career, past employment, personal workout logs, and personal letters and correspondence. Series 3: Student Tack and Cross Country Individual Files contains files on Individual student runners collected by Ed Poreda. Included in each file are documents such as newspaper clippings, personal workouts, race times, letters, and notes.

Biographical / Historical

Ed Poreda H’57 ’61 ’63 ’67 ’69 ’70 ’89 P’77 GP ’04 ’07 '08 was the Lawrenceville Schools Track coach from 1954 to 1994 and the Cross Country coach from 1953 untill his death in may 2017. Ed graduated from Treton High School in 1944 and earned a bacholors in since from Syracuse University and a Masters of Education from Rutgers University. In addition to coaching for Lawreneceville he worked for the Trenton Public Schools as a since teacher untill 1982. At Lawreneceville Ed was affectionitly called "Coachie". He lead his teams to over 850 wins, 25 undefeated seasons, 61 New Jersey Independent School Athletic Association State championships, and 6 Mid-Atlantic Prep League titles. In 1997 he was inducted into Lawrenceville's Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame. The "Ed Poreda Invitational" in track and field was established in his honor in 2002.

This collection includes AV Materials which can be found in the quarintine room. The Photograph collection can be found in the compact after the historical photograph collection.

This collection conatined AV and Photographic material which were seperated out. The AV materials are currently in quarantine. The Photograph Collection can be found with the rest of the photographic collections.
