Biographical / Historical
The Hamill House was built in 1814 by Headmaster Isaac Van Arsdale Brown in the Federal architectural style. It became the school’s first building, housing the Head Master, many of his pupils, and their classrooms. It was later named for the third and longest serving Head Master of the Lawrenceville School, Dr. Samuel McClintock Hamill, an accomplished clergyman and educator whose eulogy for President Abraham Lincoln would be widely circulated and read. Notable alumni of the Hamill House include Michael Eisner, Chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company from 1984-2005 and singer Huey Cregg.
