Biography

Robert was the youngest son of Robert and Isabella Hamill. He was born in Norristown, P.A., in 1816, and died in Philadelphia in 1900. He graduated from Jefferson College in 1839 and pursued his theological course at Princeton. He was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of N.Y. and ordained by the Presbytery of Huntington, P.A., becoming a popular preacher in Central P.A. Robert was also a trustee of Lafayette College. His first marriage was to Margaret E. Lyon (b.1829, d.1867), and his second marriage was to Anna K. Bellville (b.1832, d. 1877) His known children include: John Lyon Hamill (married Mary J.C. Faries); Robert H. Hamill, M.D. (married Fannie M. Lincoln); Mary Lyon Hamill (married Henry Wilson Armstrong); James Lyon Hamill, Esq. Samuel McClintock Hamill, M.D. (married Eliza Clark Kennedy) Margaret Isabel Hamill (married Charles Jefferys Gervin)
