Biography
Hugh was the third child and oldest son of Robert and Isabella Hamill. He graduated with first honors from Rutgers College, NJ and in theology from The College of New Jersey (now Princeton University). He was a pastor of the Presbyterian Churches at Black Rock, NY and Elkton, MD. He was also a professor of Latin and Greek at the Lawrenceville Classical and Commercial High School where he also acted as co-principal with his younger brother, Samuel McClintock Hamill, for three years from 1837-1840. Hugh Hamill retired to Newark, DE, and in 1873 he married Louise Russell (b.1833?, d.1907). Hugh Hamill never had children.

The Lawrence Collection consists of a near-complete run of unbound school newspapers. Larger gaps appear in the 19th century portion of the run. The Lawrence features many of the typical features and sections of a traditional newspaper.
